THE SPOUSES OF MISSION CHIEFS VISITED HAGIA SOPHIA GRAND MOSQUE AND THE KARIYE MOSQUE IN ISTANBUL.

6/4/2024

With a program organized by the Directorate General of Foundations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the spouses of mission chiefs toured the Eyüp Imaret, Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, and the Kariye Mosque.

Sevim Çağla Serim, the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations at the Directorate General of Foundations, stated that the program was conducted as part of the Foundation Culture Activities prepared in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Directorate General of Foundations.

Serim pointed out that there has been a negative perception created in the public regarding the restoration processes of the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque and the Kariye Mosque, both listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. She stated, “Our main goal is to not only explain how meticulously the restoration processes of these mosques are carried out but also to promote our foundation culture.”

"As for the issues related to the foundations, it is known that foundations constitute an important asset of our country. I hope that all members of Council of Ministers together with the Ministry Of Religious Affairs and even the Supreme Assembly examine this issue with great care and that this great institution is protected from devastation and made useful for our country in order to ensure that our country can benefit from this asset as necessary."
