THE HAGIA SOPHIA GRAND MOSQUE WAS REOPENED TO WORSHIP
Hagia Sophia, the common heritage and dream of all believers, was devoted as a Mosque by Fatih Sultan Mehmet on May 29,1453. It remained as an immaculated temple for 481 years. In 1934 it was convered into museum by a decision taken by the Council of Ministers.
Today 86 years of yearing is over. With the decision taken by the Council of State, it was reopened to worship again. Serman, in accordance with the Conquest Tradition was willed by the Head of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali ERBAŞ with Sword and Green Sanjak. In the first Friday prayer President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN read verses from Fatiha and Baccarat. Again the sounds of Tekbir and tehlil were raised from the domes of Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque.
Many muslims both from Turkey and around the world had flocked to the first Friday prayer.
As the Directorate General of Foundations, we are grateful for taking part in the conversion of Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque into its origin. A work of foundation, The Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque and who put a stone in this great temple all will continue to be preserved meticulously today as it was yesterday as a common heritage of humanity and believers till the time of apocalypse.
